Description
The Milky Way galaxy on a moonless night in October, the last month to see the galactic core of bright gases that are so colorful in the southern sky, here seen rising over the Sierra Buttes. The mountains in Plumas County are very dark as there is little light pollution. The Milky Way can still be seen with the naked eye and with a long exposure in camera, the color and light are picked up and seen well. The lake in the foreground is Sardine Lake which is at the base of the Sierra Buttes and the resort is only open until the end of October, after that time snow usually piles up to around 15 feet most years and the roads will be closed and accessible by snowmobile until early spring when they will plow and open the roads once again.
